BuildSkills Australia Perth Industry Breakfast
OFFSITE joined Amanda Hamilton and the BuildSkills Australia team for a very insightful breakfast event (part of a series of National industry breakfasts) on 16 February 2026 in Perth. The breakfast centred around the labour market forces that are shaping Western Australia’s built environment.
The takeaways included:
- The Gap in Workforce Capacity: Current workforce capacity remains below the levels required to meet long-term housing, infrastructure, and renewables targets.
- Productivity through Technology and Scaled Systems: A major focus was whether technology could be used to augment productivity and the role of advanced manufacturing, particularly MMC, to help increase output (with increased demand for digital skills).
- Training Agility: Whether current training platforms and the VET system are equipped to respond quickly to a changing industrial landscape.
- Workforce Evolution: Addressing workforce capability remains essential, particularly in transitioning traditional trades into tech-enabled manufacturing roles.
The day was capped off with a tour of OFFSITE’s Welshpool facility by BuildSkills’ Amanda Hamilton and Robert Sobyra, alongside Glenn Hickey from South Metropolitan TAFE. The facility tour was then followed by a visit to NARA Beaconsfield.
At OFFSITE, we believe that shifting construction into a controlled factory environment provides a stable, technical career path that can help address these labour shortages.
We appreciate the opportunity to be part of these industry conversations and look forward to contributing to practical solutions for Western Australia’s skills pipeline.
